The Story Behind

“"Honoured to have created an official tour poster for The Cure, this year’s headliner at the Isle of Wight Festival 2026. As an Island resident, this sits close to my heart. After exploring the inspiration behind the cover artwork for ‘Songs of a Lost World’, a face carved into rock that Robert stumbled across and felt compelled to use as the album’s cover, I began thinking about sculpture and erosion as a recurring, universal language. Like Robert, I was fascinated to discover an image of the Isle of Wight’s most iconic rock formation, where a mysterious carved face appears on the Needles near the Lighthouse. Nearby, a mermaid carved into the chalk, thought to bring good luck to passing mariners adds another layer of mystery. The location inaccessible to the public feels mysterious, isolated, and quietly dramatic. I was drawn to the quiet secrecy of these carvings, hidden from plain sight. They feel both intimate and enduring; shaped by time, yet resistant to it. Popular visual elements from the band’s album artwork subtly woven into the rock itself, creating a series of easter eggs for fans to discover and helping tie the piece together as a tribute to their enduring legacy. This poster echoes The Cure’s emotional imprints that linger long after the moment has passed Drawing inspiration from Robert’s loved Bagatella sculpture by Janez Pirnat’s, this piece reinterprets its carvings within the Isle of Wight landscape, placing it at the heart of the festival’s historic setting."
