The Story Behind
“"The inspiration came from the song ‘Bloodflowers’–the rose in the heron’s beak inverted, as in the song each hopeful lyric is answered with a hopeless opposite. The grey heron is commonly referenced in Irish folklore (‘Molly of the Bog’ or “Corr Scréachóa”, the crying crane) and the rose itself, the “Róisín Dubh”, dripping with blood, is in turn a homage to Dublin’s finest Thin Lizzy and Jim Fitzpatrick’s iconic cover art for their ‘79 classic Black Rose–Thin Lizzy being a band beloved and covered by Robert Smith and The Cure." - Richey Beckett”
