The Story Behind

“Sometime in the early 2000s a friend lent me a copy of The Cure’s Greatest Hits compilation on CD. This introduction soon led to a deep dive into the goth trilogy, and a further appreciation of the band’s dark and melancholic music. For this poster we wanted to blend themes from The Cure’s most recent album with emotions of early personal encounters with the band. The celestial album art of the Greatest Hits therefore felt like a natural starting point for our composition: A big bright star is floating between the palms of Robert’s hands. The star is glowing as if summoned with magic, or it could just as well radiate its last dying light. A tension between hope and loss, illumination and darkness, the growing and the fading. Melancholic, beautiful, and a little surreal, it shines its guiding light in a lost world. Having seen The Cure perform live for the first time at Øyafestivalen back in 2019, we were incredibly stoked and honored when asked to create a poster for the band’s return to Øyafestivalen this year!”
