The Story Behind
“Ozzy haunted the cultural imagination of myself and many others of my generation who were kids in the early 1980s. His reputation and theatrics formed the image of a comic book demon, frightening but intriguing. The mainstream media narrative assured us he was a friend of Satan and the music video for Bark at the Moon only helped to verify this. It marks the height of his madness, and nicely utilizes the form of visual music media that was taking over the airwaves at the time. I wanted to capture some of this visceral aesthetic in the poster and I approached it like a classic horror film or pulp book cover. The most challenging part was conveying that Madman's gaze in his eyes. I reworked that part several times until I felt the essence of the early Oz coming through.”
